Since Karen and I opened Crossroads Diner in 2010, we have decided to stay closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It gives us time to give back to the community and it gives our employees the opportunity to enjoy quality time with their families.
Christmas Eve always starts with a family visit the North Texas Food Bank, where we help box food for those who may not otherwise enjoy a Christmas meal. We follow that with lunch at a locally owned restaurant.
After lunch, I will do a little bit of Christmas shopping and I mean only a little. It’s the only day of the year I do this! From there, I will head to Central Market to stock up on the items I need to make dinner and a family tradition, the Date & Nut Torte! If I can stay up, I will attend Midnight Mass!
On Christmas Day, I enjoy watching the girls open their presents and then I head to the garage and spend the rest of the day in my woodworking shop. Pure heaven!
